The Creative Edge

July 11, 2016 - July 15, 2016

Changing lives through the transformative power of art.

An exciting new venue for my classes, the Idyllwild campus in the San Jacinto Mountains is only a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles and San Diego.

“Creativity is a matter of getting lost and dealing with the consequences.”

This class is organized as a series of creative encounters with ideas and materials, based on the premise that working with the unknown can lead to breakthroughs in art making. The goal is to experiment  with new materials and methods, to try many approaches and to open the door to our authentic voice and artistic sources.

Gesso, newsprint, stones, found objects, string, shellac and paint are but a few of the of the materials we will explore in the process. We will begin each day with energizing perception exercises, designed to stimulate an artful response. Although this is a process oriented class, participants will create many new works each day, including drawings, books and small sculptures.

Instruction, including slides, mixed media demonstrations and group projects, emphasizes art as an integrative experience, and introduces free association and experimentation with off-beat art forms. Art experience is helpful but not necessary. Participants will want to come with a willingness to experiment and be unattached to a specific outcome. The instructor’s handout is a book made expressly for the class.

This workshop is suitable for those desiring to stretch the boundaries of their thinking and creating. It can be especially beneficial to artists of all media, to teachers and writers and to creative souls from all disciplines.

Tuition is $750. For registration details go to: www.idyllwildarts.org/adultarts
